how do i install a head unit into my 1980 ford escort?

i need to know how to put a head unit into my 1980 ford escort.
i know how to put put in speakers and all that, and how to replace/change a head unit (i used to work at a car audio workshop), but in this car, there is no stereo at all (and there never has been). so i was wondering if i had to hook the head unit up to the battery somehow or whats the go with all that?
is it a DIY job or should i just pay a professional?

I would hook it up myself, install an antenna ,may have to drill into the fender and run a keyed wire and a hot wire , both fused, I would use the fuse box for the power and find a good ground.
