Repairing Chips In Your Car Window

All of us would like our car window to look clean and scratch-free in and out since the car window mirrors who you are. Some of us are not aware that tiny chips are already present on the window of our vehicle. Vehicle owners should consider the smallest chip in their automobile since they can possibly be a huge problem in the future and may cause accident.

As you drive down the road, a small piece of gravel can hit your window and leave a chip. No matter how expensive your window is, the glass is still susceptible to chips. Leaving the chip alone can cause breakage and may lead to a full window replacement instead of just having it repaired.

To save money, you can pick up a window chip repair kit at most retailers and fill the window chip before it gets to that point.

1. Clean out the hole of the window chip with a pin. Dig out any dirt as a clean hole will fill and adhere better than a dirty one. Wipe the surrounding glass with a dry cloth or towel to remove any other dirt.

2. Remove the paper backing on the adhesive strip that came with your window repair kit. Just place the sticky side on the glass so that the window chip will be placed on the middle of the adhesive tape. Press firmly to ensure that it is stuck to the glass.

3. Peel off the paper backing on the other side of the adhesive strip now stuck to your windshield. Mount the pedestal provided in your kit so it is straight on the adhesive strip and the pedestal is facing straight up. Push on the base of the pedestal to make sure that it will stick to the adhesive strip.

4. Get rid of the plunger of the syringe and add the window chip-filling chemicals provided in the kit. Carefully replace the syringe plunger. Remove the cap of the syringe and you’re ready to start filling the hole.

5. Insert the end of the syringe into the pedestal sticking out of the window chip. Press down on the plunger to insert the chemicals into the hole. Carefully take the plunger for the syringe to fill with air. Press the plunger back down to add more chemicals to the hole. Let it sit for 10 minutes.

6. Remove the syringe, pedestal and adhesive backing from the window. Use the razor blade to smooth out the surface of the glass to make the newly filled hole the same level as the rest of the glass.

It is always best to take care of chips as soon as you become aware of them as a small chip that is ignored and left un-repaired can escalate into expensive situations where you could need to replace your entire window. Having the chips of your car window repaired by professionals will be easy for them and even make your car window as good as new.
