External Antenna for Realtek 8185 extensible wireless device?
Here’s my situation: My neighbor has recently set up a wireless network, now our house or dorm are just adjacent to each other. But my room is about 40-60m away with obstructions like walls, about 5 of them. Currently my wireless network adapter does not recognize a signal. I’m suspecting that it’s internal antenna does not have the range. I’m planning to buy an external antenna for it, a commercial one. So, do you guys know what antenna is compatible with my Realtek 8185 extensible wireless device network adapter?
P.S. No DIY Antennas, just the commercial one.
Ok, I don’t know much about built-in wireless devices so… Anyway, what wireless USB adapter with external antenna can you recommend? Can it reach/recognize the signal?(I’m about 40-60m away from the router). Thanks.
You can’t connect an external antenna to your built-in wireless device. You have to buy a USB wireless adaptor with an external antenna. Normally those adaptors come with a 5″ long antenna directly connectd to it but you can replace it with a higher gain antenna connected by a coaxial cable. Don’t get the USB wireless adaptor with a built-in antenna.
