DIY COOLING PAD

DIY COOLING PAD
Why does my Macbook feel hot and why is the fan noisy too?

this problem happens to me very often. maybe when i open adobe photoshop, firefox, limewire and itunes altogether or sometimes when i’m on youtube or listening to some streaming song on the internet. is there a way to fix my problem DIY? does a cooling pad actually help?

thank you =)

The fan in the MacBook (and in most other computers) is temperature controlled. As your CPU heats up, the fan has to spin faster to keep it cool. As a fan spins faster, it makes more noise.

When I have this happen to me, I find it’s usually my browser (firefox in my case). A lot of web sites use flash (e.g. Youtube) or javascript and these often seem to cause a browser problem and make it use lots of CPU.

You can check which program is using the most CPU but clicking on the Macintosh HD icon, then on applications, then utilities, then Activity Monitor. Make sure you’ve got the CPU tab selected then click on the CPU column to sort it. The program at the top of the list is using the most CPU and is likely to be causing the problem.

A cooling pad will keep the outside of your MacBook cool and make it more comfortable to hold on your lap. There may be a small effect on the CPU temperature, but I wouldn’t count on it.
