DIY LIGHT STAND
How can I buy or make a hard plastic box, w/ color changing lights inside, able to be stood and danced on?
I’ve seen them at a few casinos, but I’m not sure what they are called.
I love doing DIY, so if I can make it: awesome.
They will need to portable, but sturdy, as they will be used for concerts during touring.

You could make one out of wood.
Basically, build a box.
You might want corner braces for strength.
Install a pair of casters on the back side, so you can up-end it and roll it around.
Dado the top for a piece of plexiglas (or polycarbonate) to sit into. Also, you might want to add an “X” shaped wood brace from corner to corner of the box to help support the clear top.
As far as changing lighting:
Load box with XMas lights that “blink”, changing pattern randomly,
or
Get the programmable XMas lights, that you can program the pattern that they change,
or
If you want them to match the music, go to Radio Shack and get a “Color Organ” kit.
This has an input that you plug into an audio output, and it syncs the lights to the audio signal.
