DIY OIL PRESS

DIY OIL PRESS
how to widen a hole in some wood?

i have a guitar i’ve had built, which has a cavity that fits a metal cylinder/button that slides back and forth(on a plate on top, a tremelo lock). there is not enough room for the button to move fully into position, because the cavity its in in the wood is not big enough.

it needs about 3mm/1/8″ more and the cavity is circular, at the end of an oblong- about 1cm across. it needs to be quite excact as otherwise the cavity will extend past the plate on top. the wood is black limba, or its alternative name black korina.- similar in property to alder, and is finished with danish oil.

how is the best way to make the whole bigger. i dont have drill presses, vices or anytihng like that. just home DIY tools. would a large file of the right dimensions be ok? i’m looking for sometihng more excact though, perhaps a particualr drill attachment?
i mean a shape like this: a rectangle with a circular end.
to clarify i mean to make it longer so the button can slide further

Use painters tape on the surface to mark, with a black ink pen, the center point 3 mm from existing hole. this is the furthest point for the opening. Both sides will taper to zero on the sides of the 1/2 circle. If you have a template to draw the new 1/2 circle, use that to trace the sides.

Carefully remove the material within the line, including any traces of the line on the tape with a rounded file, or dremel type tool. Remove protective painters tape and reassemble. Good luck.
