DIY OUTLET COVERS
Help with my outlets!?

I have removed the first layer of paneling from my kitchen. The next layer of paneling is in great shape and I have decided to paint it. The problem is when I put the outlet covers back on their is a gap in between the wall and the cover where the other layer of paneling was. Any suggestions? I also have a light swith that does nothing? We have lived there for 3 yrs and we can not figure out what it is for. We just had all of our electrial updated in our house because none of it was grounded. The electrician said the was juice going ot it? Can I get rid of it? Or is that something I should not mess with as a DIY? Thanks for the help!!
yes the electrician did
when you put those wire nuts on all you do is screw them on to the wires? Do you do a seperate each wire and each one gets a nut on it or can you put all the wires in one? My guess would be NO?
after you put the nut on should you then wrap it in electrical tape to be extra save

Some outlets are adjustable. When the cover is off, do you see 2 adjusting screws, 1 on top and 1 on bottom? These sometimes adjust the outlet in and out.
If not, they need to be pulled off of the stud and reattached deeper into the wall recess – probably impossible to do unless you remove the paneling first.
As far as the lightswitch, it most likely controls an outlet somewhere on that circuit. Plug a lamp or something into every outlet, and see if the switch does anything. I would leave it alone, or have an electrician deal with it if you want to remove it.
