help i need to make a book shelf/cabinet?

So I live in a tiny town, no IKEA etc. and I am rapidly running out of room in my bookshelf. Literally the books are stacked in multiple piles on top of one another for lack of room. How can I construct a book cabinet myself, I don’t want to screw anything into the wall though? Any tricks to make a nice one with not a lot of effort haha I’m not much of a DIY-er

For someone with a little carpentry/woodworking experience and the tools available to do it, making a basic bookshelf isn’t too hard a task. You would need to purchase your own lumber and there are plenty of woodworking plans & tutorials online for anything you could think of. From the sounds of it though, this might be a little outside of your grasp. I can’t see making a “nice” bookshelf without having access to a planer and a table saw (both large and expensive stationary power tools), along with a couple other basic things. You can build one without expensive power tools, but that would require a very high level of skill with traditional hand tools. If you don’t have access to these kinds of tools and the know-how to use them, then wanting to make a nice, wooden bookshelf yourself might not be reasonable.

I would check classified ads if I were you. People very often get rid of things like that that way, so there’s a pretty good chance of you finding bookshelves/book cabinets through that route. Just because you may live somewhere rural doesn’t mean you can’t travel a little to pick up something like this. Its only a one time trip, and if you need it badly enough then it will be worth your time. You can always check online retailers as well. You can look for plastic shelving units (such as this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sterilite-01648501-4-Shelf-Shelving-Platinum/dp/B001KYJQMI/ref=pd_sim_hi_1 ) if you don’t want to spend a lot. Combine them with bookends and they may do the job great.

If there is no way for you to purchase one or have someone you know build one for you, then your best bet may be something makeshift. You’ll have to be creative. The cinder blocks and boards mentioned by the other member is one idea. I can imagine using cardboard boxes and empty paper towel rolls to build one. You might not get away with not putting in much effort, but I’m sure if you want to badly enough you’ll find a way that works for you.
