DIY SWITCH
How difficult is it to install a neutral safety switch on a 93 Taurus?
I know a few things about cars and mechanics, but am in no way an expert. Should I cough up the $230 and save the hassle, or is it worth the DIY attempt?
dealership price is 75.61 for the switch. The book calls for .6/10ths of an hour to do. Shops have a 1 hour min so thats 1 hour plus the part. Looking on average 135.00 for most shops everything included
heres a breakdown of where its located and how it goes on…
On the top of the transmission is the shifting lever that the cable goes to. You remove the nut and slide off the shift arm. then unbolt 3 small bolts and wiggle the old switch off and reverse process to replace. The switch will have to be adjusted witch is simply, put the car in park and see if it starts. If it does, then its fine. If not, loosen the three bolts and slide the switch a little and tighten and try to start again.
In general, pay attention to the bolt marks on the old one and put the new one in the same place. Duck soup job.
