EPOXY GARAGE FLOOR DIY
Will DIY epoxy work on slick floor?

I want to put epoxy on my garage floor (no cars go in in there just workout stuff) but I’m worried about my current surface. It has a smooth surface and when I put water on it, it doesn’t absorb. Also, I don’t have the money to prof. do it, that’s why I am doing it myself.

If I use an acid first, will it strip whatever is on the floor so it will bond?

Wet the floor first. it will etch the floor inconsistently if the floor is dry.

Dilute muriatic acid (50%) 1 part in 5 parts water in a garden sprinkling can and pour it out evenly over the floor. Rinse it off with a garden hose and let it dry. If the acid “foamed up” when you poured it on, you are good to lay finish.

If the acid did not foam up, there is a cure seal on your concrete. It needs to be abraded or the epoxy will peel. If you have top abrade it, rent a floor machine from rental and lightly sand the concrete with an 80 grit sanding screen.

Rinse the dust off with a garden hose and let it dry, you are good to lay finish.

Make sure to buy an epoxy system that has “flake”. That helps hid chips later and it will make the floor less slippery when it’s wet.

Good luck!
