HGTV DIY NETWORK

Should I go to school?
I am 36 yrs old and have been factory working since graduating high school in 1990. I want to get out of this because factory work is out of my system. I’ve really been wanting to get into landscaping and design and hands on work, eventually having my own business. My question is should I go to school for it or should I just find a job and learn hands on and work my way up the ladder? Some of my family and friends say that I’m too old to be in a classroom with a bunch of young people. I live within 20 miles of our local community college and they offer the kind of courses that I’m looking for. I spend my weekends watching almost all of the programing on HGTV and DIY networks that my wife asks me “Why doesn’t our yard look like those yards, you watch them so much?”. Again my question is should I go to school or learn hands on with a local company?
They may offer part time courses at the college for mature students and you could maybe look for a job where you could attend the classes in your spare time. That way you can earn while you learn. Another idea is if you have a National Trust garden, or any other garden open to the public nearby, you could volunteer there to get experience.
