LED DIY PROJECT

Flashing LED Circuit?
I’m kind of new to the whole DIY electronics things, and I wanted to try something as one of my first serious projects. It was a circuit with an LED that, when a switch is turned, blinks faster and faster, and after a certain amount of time, opens a relay to do something, than turns off. Any ideas?
you could use a microcontroller, but you will need to learn the basics of programming it and buy a “burner”, so if you are a newbie you may want to avoid that route
another option would be to use a bicore http://www.beam-wiki.org/wiki/Bicore#The_Phototropic_Suspended_Bicore if you add LEDs in line with the resistors of a grounded bicore they will flash
thttp://wild-bohemian.com/electronics/flasher.html here is a couple of circuits that will do basic LED flashing too, one uses transistors, the other uses a special IC called a 555 timer
the simplest method is to just make a mains circuit though http://www.qsl.net/yo5ofh/hobby%20circuits/led_circuits.htm as you already have the oscillation present. of course you should be careful with mains voltages
