How can I fix my Wii?

A few months ago my Wii stopped working. It stopped reading discs. It recognizes the CD on the Wii’s home screen and I can even click the CD menu and click start however after I do that, it goes past the screen where it tells you to wear your wriststrap and have a good distance between you and other objects but then it gives an error like this “Unable to read disc, please check Troubleshooting Manual.” Or something along those lines, if needed I can get the exact message. I called Nintendo and they want me to send it in and pay 85$ because my warranty expired, no way! I did some research online and found that there were people having the same problem and they simply took the Wii apart and cleaned the laser and it was fixed. I did that but it didn’t fix it. Does anyone have any DIY ideas? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Just pay the money, i think its worth it if you are going to those extents to fix your wii.
