SILK SCREEN SHIRTS DIY
Making your own t-shirt designs?

I find that t-shirt iron-ons never last… I follow the instructions and sometimes do extra ironing, but they still begin to rip/come apart after a few washes and I’m not going to handwash regular tshirts. Any tips or tricks to getting them to stay?

Fabric paint works just fine, but painting on fabric is kinda hard when you’re not used to it.

Could you use spraypaint on clothes? Would it stay and not bleed?

I’m looking to just make a few t-shirts of my own, and wanted to make a jacket with a band logo on the back (fabric jacket… think of DIY punk coats–but not leather.)

Any tips on DIY clothing is appreciated, especially for how to get a nice print on a shirt without getting it professionally silk screened.

can’t help you with spray paint.

but for easier fabric painting, use stencils. you can use ready-made stencils of your favorite design or make them yourself – draw/trace/print the design on a sheet of transparency/folder plastic. cut out the design to make a stencil. place this on the t-shirt & dab the fabric paints on it.
instead of cutting the entire design on stencil, you could cut just a couple of petals [if you are using a floral motif] & shift & reuse them to make a complete flower. see whether there are any repeatable motifs in your pattern & cut your stencil accordingly.
instead of dabbing paint, you can use ordinary brush strokes but with the stencil acting as a guide to keep you neat.

and since the stencil is cut from plastic, it will stay for a lifetime ;-)

hope this helps
all the very best & have fun
