DIY FLOORS TIPS

How do you make terrazzo flooring look pretty after it’s been under carpet for 30 years? Hire someone or DIY?
We want to pull up our carpet in our house but we don’t know what to expect the terrazzo floors underneath to look like. Do we need to hire someone to polish them? Or should we rent a buffer? Any special cleaner you can recommend? I’m assuming it is going to look pretty bad but anything is better than this hideous carpet! I’d appreciate any tips or advice. THANKS!!
I had terrazzo floors in Indonesia. Absolutely loved them, they kept the house cool. I had the best looking terrazzo and the envy of my friends.
You will need house shoes though with soft soles.
Avoid vinegar or any acid, it bites right into the shine.
You don’t know what you have until the floor is exposed. Could be all it needs is a wash. Use normal floor soap and add a tablespoon of kerosene to water and mop. Open the windows. Dull areas can be polished with baking soda. Once washed, then you can decide what you want done professionally.
One tip for any brass strips: Mask on both sides with tape and use Brasso brass cleaner. Enjoy your floors!
