DIY TABLE SAW PLANS
building router table and need help.?

I have a Ryobi ZRRTS20 15 Amp 10-in Portable Table Saw. The stand is really bad so I am building a table for it. I thought that while I was at it I could maximize the use of the table and include a place for a router table. A two in one deal. Does anyone out there know of any plans for a table like this that I could review? a link to some Images would be preferable. Thanks DIY gurus!

Combining a router with a table saw, is something that’s been around for a few years now…. Some manufacturers are building the combination table saw / router, and some are making extensions, to add the router to an already existing table saw, like this one:

Here is a site with quite a collection of router tables –

I also remember an article where a woodworker had built himself a ‘modular’ tool system, where he could swap out a powered miter saw, with a router, or a few other machines he had ‘modified’….. so they would all fit the same ‘workbench’. The point was, his was a good arrangement for someone with VERY limited floor space. The big drawback that I saw, was that you could only run ONE machine at a time, and had to spend time changing it out, every time you needed a different task done. Unfortunately, I don’t remember where I saw this article, it’s been some time ago.
He was using more MDF than anything else. The machines would be mounted on a ‘base’ of MDF, and all the ‘bases’ (no matter which machine it was attached to), were all the same, so that they would fit in the same location, a section of the bench made to receive it, with the machine to be either on top (like a bench grinder), or underneath (like an inverted router)….and they all used the same stop/guide system.

For myself, I would seriously consider using an extension like one at the link above, to fit onto a table saw, if I had limited floor space to work with.

I’ve built a lot of tables for various machines, table saws, routers, as well as a lot of jigs and fixtures. If you can’t get a top made of cast steel, or aluminum, then consider using a high grade 7 layer (minimum) plywood if you’re limited to 3/4″ stock. If you can, then go for a 1 inch or thicker piece of particle board….with either core material, you want to laminate it….a basic white laminate works pretty well in most situations, just get a smooth texture.
